Warriors 2 - 3 AFC Kirk Hallam

Away win secures the league

The under 11's made the long trip to Newark to play against Warriors in a match where a draw would guarantee a second place finish and promotion, and a win would guarantee winning the league.

The game started in a very nervy fashion for Kirk Hallam and Warriors started very much the better team. That being said, a great run from the Kirk Hallam attack resulting in the Warriors goalkeeper saving a shot onto the crossbar, only for the ball to bounce back down and away to safety. Warriors then went up the other end of the pitch and hit a post with a great effort. With a lot of good passing, Warriors dominated the following stages and deservedly went in front through a free kick that was not dealt with by Kirk Hallam. Kirk Hallam's nervousness getting the better of them as they were constantly being caught offside on the attack. After the goal, the away side finally sprung into life and started creating some chances of their own. A free kick on halfway was sent into the Warriors box and Richard Frost levelled to make the score 1-1. For the remainder of the half, both sides went at each other in equal spells, with Kirk Hallam going closest with a shot that went into the side netting. Manager Dave Morley making a bit of a fool of himself, jumping around thinking that they'd scored. With some rough treatment being dealt out by the Warriors number seven, the Kirk Hallam boys had to coast through until half time and keep their cool.

H-T 1-1

After a visit to both sides from the referee regarding the behaviour of the Warriors number seven, the teams returned to the pitch. Kirk Hallam were allowed to go about their business a little more and created more chances in the opening minutes of the half. Emin Alcin and Rich Frost as usual, dominating in midfield, with Emin sending Ben Morley clear to make it 2-1 to Kirk Hallam. Harris Khan then added to the lead a few minutes later and gave Kirk Hallam some breathing space. Warriors then immediately reduced the lead back dow to one after a fantastic lob from their forward over the Kirk Hallam goalkeeper into the net for 2-3. With five minutes left, Emin Alcin came back onto the pitch after being rotated to calm things down against the Warriors number seven. Kirk Hallam saw the game through and over the period of the spring season, deservedly winning the Young Elizabethan League Division 2 with 21 points out of a possible 24.

With Long Eaton drawing with Ruddington Yellow, The margin of victory in the league for Kirk Hallam is 7 points with only three for Long Eaton left to play for in second, currently on 14 points. Warriors, on 10, have six points left to play for and can finish on 16. Last Weeks' opponents, Beaufort United today beat Cotgrave 4-1, giving them 9 points, with 9 more to play for and a possible 18 points to finish on.

After only starting the team a year ago, the aim was to have won division 3 by now. The boys have by far surpassed this and look forward to what is sure to be a very tough challenge in division 1 next season. Well done lads.

A huge thanks to all 13 players and their parents for their commitment this season. We couldn't have done it without any of you
