AFC Kirk Hallam Summer Tournament

1 week ago By Dave Morley

First ever event of this kind

As the dust settles after what was a long but enjoyable day, AFC Kirk Hallam would like to thank each and every one of the people and teams in attendance for supporting our first ever junior football tournament. We saw some great football being played, with some fantastic goals being scored and on the whole, games were played in the right way and you should all be proud of your players for making a fantastic day.

Thanks to the referees, most of whom are all newly qualified and still at school. You all did a great job and we hope the day was useful to you in your development.

Throughout the day, a total of 31 teams were in attendance, over 400 players, 60 coaches, 7 referees and many many more spectators.

There was a total of 74 matches, which saw 127 goals scored and only 16 matches where there were no goals scored. This means in the 58 other matches, there was an average of more than 2 goals per game, which made for some pretty exciting viewing. Only one match throughout the day ended in penalties, which was a huge surprise.

With a number of club volunteers in attendance, some of which had not watched any junior football in years, let alone our own team, the quality of the teams and their players on show was excellent. From Notts County girls at under 9's, through to our very own Kirk Hallam team at under 11's, everyone put in their all, enjoyed their day and produced some amazing memories for all.

The under 9's tournament was won by Field Lane Athletic. Runners up were Chesapeake Apaches after a fantastic, closely fought match that ended 1-1 and was won on penalties.

The under 10's tournament was won by Long Eaton United. Runners up were Rise Park.

The under 11’s tournament was won by AFC Kirk Hallam. Runners up were CS Colts.

Also, please consider using Eurosoccer for your kits, teamwear, balls, training equipment, goals etc. They have been great for us over the last couple of years and were fantastic in their support over the weekend. You can view their website at

The fantastic blow up goals were loaned to us by Phoenix Sporting Goods. I’m sure you were all as impressed with them as we were. They take less than three minutes to set up and are FA approved. You can find them on their website at

We hope everyone who attended the event had a great day. See you all again soon.
