Ruddington Colts Yellow 3 - AFC Kirk Hallam 6
First match in division 2 ends in victory
The under 11's went into action for the first time in division two against a Ruddington team who finished runners up in Winter division 3 blue and were also promoted. With the fixture originally scheduled to be played at Gallows, the pitch again let the team down and Ruddington very kindly accommodated us at their venue.
With Ruddington having the under 11's YEL current top goalscorer in their ranks, specific game plans were made for Kirk Hallam to play to.
In what started as an even half, Harley Rose was given the task to man mark the Ruddington forward and he did so along with Owen Robinson and Liam Evans who between them, restricted the danger man to a single shot in the half, which was brilliantly dealt with by Caleb Topley in goal. Kirk Hallam went a goal up through Harris Khan following a set up by Ben Morley. Rich Frost and Emin Alcin performed brilliantly in midfield throughout the match, protecting the defence with their strength and power, as well and pulling the strings with quick, neat passing. The lead was then doubled shortly before half time following some amazing passing football which ended in Keane Eyre sending Ben Morley clear down the wing to slid the ball across to Oakley Ryan, who calmly tapped in to make it 2 - 0 at half time.
With the home side getting more and more frustrated, Kirk Hallam scored within the first three minutes of the second half through Ben Morley after being sent clear by Joel Ogden. Ben then got his second and made it 4 - 0 after some great passing with Oakley Ryan, going round three defenders and sticking the ball into the net from a tight angle. Ruddington then got a goal back following a long ball over the top which missed out the midfield and more critically, the Kirk Hallam defence, for the Ruddington danger man to get his first goal of the day. Kirk Hallam shifted up a gear again and following some more fantastic passing football hit a post through Ben Morley, narrowly missing out on his hat trick. This was by far the best performance of the season so far to this point, with Joel Ogden getting in on the act by smashing in from the edge of the box to make it 5 - 1. An own goal then made it 6 - 1 when a high, looping shot came to the home goalkeeper, who dropped the ball into his own goal. This was particularly harsh on the goalkeeper who had kept the score down throughout the game. Ruddington then scored two late consolation goals through two more long balls over the top for the striker to complete his hat trick. A shame to concede the two late goals as 6 - 1 was probably the more deserved result, but no matter. An absolutely fantastic performance from each and every player.
