AFC Kirk Hallam 4 - 0 Wollaton & Bramcote Green

Kirk Hallam take control in the race for the title with dominant win
The under 12's went into todays game in confident mood on the back of a very good performance in the cup last week against Gonerby. With the match being against their closest rivals and top scorers in the league, this was undoubtedly the biggest match of the season so far. The lads responded magnificently.
The game kicked off in a nervy fashion, with Wollaton enjoying the lions share of possession and looked threatening, creating a couple of half chances in the first few minutes, with Kirk Hallam looking like they were still in bed and having to rely on some last ditch defending from Liam Evans, Harley Rose and Owen Robinson. The big Wollaton striker went clear, only for his chance to come to nothing. Ten minutes in and Kirk Hallam sprang into life. Richard Frost and Ben Morley in midfield got hold of the ball and with Rich distributing and Ben running at Wollaton, things were looking encouraging. The breakthrough, however, cam from a fantastic through ball from Owen Robinson, for the tireless Ellis Shore to run onto and slot home for 1-0. Kirk Hallam now took hold of the game, with Finley O'Neill on one wing and Harris Khan on the other tormenting the Wollaton full backs and Ben Morley continually drawing fouls from a frustrated Wollaton central midfielder who could not influence the game in the way he wanted. His frustrations getting the better of him, resulting in him committing foul after foul. Great work on two occasions saw Ellis break clear down the left to cross in low, both times unfortunately, nobody was on the end of it. Towards the end of the half, saw the introduction of Emin Alcin and Sean Todd, who slotted straight into their positions comfortably and allowed play to continue in the same way. A rare Wollaton attack towards the end of the half, following the Kirk Hallam defence being caught in possession, saw the ball sent wide for a goal kick to Kirk Hallam.
The second half saw the introduction of Finn Rydzyk and Lewis Smith up front and on the right wing respectively. Again, both players joined the play with no problems at all and did really well in positions that they weren't used to. Ten minutes into the second half, Richard Frost slid in a delightful ball for Ellis Shore to pounce on and bag his second goal of the day. Rich was again fantastic having been pushed a little further up field. Following a corner, he narrowly headed over the bar. Emin Alcin and reintroduced Finley O'Neill were totally in control after Rich went of the pitch, showing strength in depth against a very good team. With the strength of Finley and Emin becoming apparent, Finley was sent through for a decent chance on goal on 45 minutes. Ben Morley then hit the post direct from the resulting corner. A few minutes later, great approach play from Finn Rydzyk set up Harris Khan to smash in from the edge of the area for 3-0 and effectively end the game as a competition. Harley Rose, Liam Evans, Owen Robinson and Sean Todd were all magnificent in the second half, holding Wollaton at bay, with their best chance, a shot along the floor, which hit a divot, which Caleb "Clean Sheet" Topley dealt with magnificently, pushing the ball up over his crossbar. In the dying moments of the game, another Kirk Hallam corner resulted in Ben Morley using the windy conditions and scoring direct from the corner making it 4-0.
A third clean sheet in division 2 out of six matches leaves Kirk Hallam three points clear at the top of the league with four games left to play. The task is now straightforward and in our hands. Win the remaining matches, win the league. No match will be taken for granted, but we are firmly in the driving seat and look favourites.
Well done boys.
