First 11 a side match for the under 12's
By Dave Morley
Close match ends in defeat
This weekend, the under 12's had a break from league action and took the opportunity to have a go at 11 a side football whilst also handing a debut to Charlie Richards. Keyworth United White from the division above agreed to visit us for a friendly match at Gallows Inn playing fields.
The game started with neither side really getting a hold of the ball, but it was Kirk Hallam who took the lead with Ben Morley going round two defenders with a Maradonna turn and feeding Ellis Shore, playing in a lone striker role, to strike and make it 1-0 to the hosts. The same pair combined again ten minutes later to make it 2-0, with Shore firing over the goalkeeper from twenty yards. An end to end match then ensued, with both teams playing some great football and creating chances. Caleb Topley in goal for Kirk Hallam producing some great saves. Keyworth hit back before half time with a neat finish following a defensive mistake to take it to half time at 2-1.
The second half came as a nasty shock to the home side, with Keyworth starting much stronger and equalising within the first few minutes of the half. This was quickly followed by another Keyworth goal to make it 3-2. A Kirk Hallam free kick hit the crossbar and the Keyworth goalkeeper pulled off some great saves, before sending the ball up the other end for the Keyworth striker to make it 4-2. Ben Morley and Ellis Shore combined again for a hat trick for Ellis and a close end to the match, but ultimately defeat. A few nasty moments from two of the Keyworth players during the second half cast a shadow on what was otherwise a great game, played in the right way.
Thanks to Lee for bringing his team. Hopefully they'll have learned as much as we have from the game.
