Mickleover RBL 0 - 4 AFC Kirk Hallam
The march goes on
Kirk Hallam returned to league football after about 6 weeks off and met a Mickleover side that were a potential banana skin.
RBL were unbeaten at Poppyfields Drive this season and they pushed us all the way in a 4-3 close game at our place.
It has been customary for us to come out of the blocks quickly though and we immediately took the game to the Derby outfit.
On Four minutes Vaughn Hallsworth converted an Andy Flindall cross.
Two minutes later and Marek Smith was felled in the box and the ref pointed to the spot.
Nick Ghizlanzoni stepped up but pushed his kick wide.
Mickleover had little in way of any attacking threat and when they did the back 3 of Mark Whitehead, Scott Morris, and Darren Taylor kept them at bay.
A Steve Gomm header from a corner doubled the lead on 24 mins and Ian Trueman saw his header come back off the bar.
Kirk Hallam made 5 changes at the break and it took a while to adjust.... Mickleover began to settle and pushed forward but when called upon Bryan Waplington made two exceptional saves.
Ghizlanzoni attoned for his spot kick miss by adding a third minutes before Gomm grabbed his second to make it 4-0.
With Holbrook losing Kirk Hallam could be crowned champions this week with a win against the only team that have stopped us winning, Priory Celtic.
Kick off 14.00 Sunday at the Stute.
