AFC Kirk Hallam 2 - 1 Kimberley Miners Welfare
Vets make it to the final
Kirk Hallam progressed to the cup final in their first season after a last gasp Bobby Trueman winner in this controversial game.
It had looked like a spirited and hard working Kimberley side that had been reduced to just nine men would hang on for penalties until Trueman fired in from the edge of the box.
On a neutral pitch in Calverton and for the first time this season we were poor, never got going, and failed to raise to the occasion. As the frustration built the bickering started.
Fortunately on 13 minutes Nick Ghislanzoni opened the scoring with a free kick from 20 yards. This should have encouraged the lads to step up the game but it remained scrappy on a poor playing surface.
On 30 minutes a defensive error allowed Kimberley forward Holt to advance and lob the keeper with a mishit shot from a good 30 yards.
Kirk Hallam were frustrated more and more in the second half as Kimberley fought hard for every ball and matched us in all departments.
The game took a turn on the hour mark though as an injured Kimberley player wanted to be replaced by a sub only to be told by the ref that it would not be allowed as Kimberley had failed to submit a team sheet before the game.
The ensuing protests saw a Kimberley player receive a second yellow therefore having to finish with nine men..... To their credit they still gave everything and although Kirk Hallam should have scored earlier with chance after chance, it took last gasp effort to beat them.
We will face Eastwood at Arnold Town on 13 May chasing a league and cup double as after the semi final we found out that Hilton had beaten Holbrook to give us the league title.
Confirmation we are also league Champions.
